It’s hard to really get a good feel for the functionality and camera capabilities of the Canon X2 compact. I have been using professional cameras for many years and for a while, I felt as though the new digital models were behind the times, or at least didn’t compare to their predecessors in the formative days of the compact camera. I remember feeling somewhat underwhelmed when I tried out the X Compact and although I was impressed by its size, the lack of O.S. buttons (a common problem with many cameras) and poor manual operation were not good things for me.
However, after much prodding, I was able to get my head around the need for buttons and dials. At first, I found myself fumbling around trying to operate the camera’s menus, but after some trial and error, I eventually became accustomed to the whole thing. Even if you don’t care about photography, the ability to easily take pictures of your favorite subjects, or the perfect shot of that coffee cup, is invaluable. If you’re serious about your photography, getting an affordable, top-quality camera is a must.
But more than just the buttons, I was surprised at how well the camera worked overall. Although it lacked O.S. buttons, the viewfinder and the flash worked extremely well. In addition, the screen is large and bright, which allows for a nice level of contrast and color saturation. Overall, I’d recommend this camera to anyone looking for a solid, feature-rich compact camera that’s not overly expensive.
